How did the idea for ASKING FOR TROUBLE come to you?

The initial idea for the story focused on Nemesis, the Robin Hood inspired cat burglar who’s been targeting the wealthy citizens of Lantano Valley. I’ve always loved the idea of fighting for the little guy, of doing something that should be done and because no one steps up, they do. Enter Nemesis. As I reworked the story, I realized the idea of said criminal could be more powerful if Nemesis became a secondary/influential character rather than actually be the hero or heroine, but that meant I needed to connect Nemesis to them.

The solution presented itself when I caught one of those infomercials for St. Jude’s hospital and all the amazing work they do. Talk about making the world a better place. In giving Morgan Tremayne her cause, her determination to help seriously ill children at any cost, everything else fell into place including the much needed conflict. The worst possible man for her to fall in love with was the one man who could destroy everything she built. She’s definitely asking for trouble by getting involved with Gage Juliano.

What do you have in the works now?

The flood gates have finally opened, LOL. ASKING FOR TROUBLE is the first in the Tremayne Family Romances and I recently turned in books 2 (HERE COMES TROUBLE) and 3 (THE TROUBLE WITH NATHAN) to my editor. I’ve also started self-publishing a series of novellas that take place in the same town as these stories. The first of which, READING BETWEEN THE LINES is a sweet romance prequel (of sorts) and is available now. I’ve just dived into a new series for Harlequin Heartwarming (their sweet contemporary romance line) that should start coming out in late 2015/early 2016. The Butterfly Harbor books take place in a town inspired by the gorgeous Monterey area. I’m hoping to do more Tremayne books since there are a lot of secondary characters clamoring for their own stories, one in particular who will not leave me alone. Seriously, she will not shut up.

What types of books do you like to read?

I miss reading as much as I used to, I was one of those voracious readers who gobbled up to 2 paperbacks a day, and when I do, it tends to be romance. I adore the genre. It’s why I started writing, it’s what continues to inspire me. But there are times I can’t resist a good thriller or horror novel. Give me a classic Stephen King or Dean Koontz (who excels at romance as well) and I’m a happy girl.

What are you reading right now?

I recently started re-reading the entire JD Robb IN DEATH series. People who know me know I bow at the feet of Nora Roberts and for me, she’s the quintessential storyteller of our time. Her books encompass everything I love about reading. I’m also diving deeper into the sweet romance genre and am loving Melinda Curtis’ Bridesmaids series. She a master of conflict and character growth.

Favorite kitchen gadget?

Oh, wow, I am a kitchen gadget fiend! What a fun question. I just bought one of those hand held vegetable spiral thingies (Vegetti Spiral cutter). I LOVE it. I’ve been making zucchini pasta for weeks and it’s so much healthier than pasta. Sometimes those “As seen on TV” products really work. This is one of them.

Favorite food?

I don’t think you can beat a good loaf of sourdough bread. It’s so basic yet so perfect when done right. Hot out of the oven and smeared with creamy butter? Egads. Now I’m hungry. 🙂

The Tremaynes are one of the most prosperous families in Lantano Valley, California. But money can’t buy everything—especially when it comes to love…

Morgan Tramayne has a heart of gold, but to keep her children’s charity afloat she’s had to resort to some less than legal means: donations from a notorious cat burglar who targets the wealthy. It’s only a matter of time before Morgan’s criminal connection blows up in her face—especially since her undeniable attraction to the man heading the investigation keeps putting her in tricky situations.

Former police detective-turned-investigator Gage Juliano has two goals: salvaging his career and nabbing Lantano Valley’s present-day Robin Hood. But when he meets a beautiful, curvaceous woman who’s more interested in helping others than amassing a fortune like the rest of the town’s residents, Gage finds his desires pulled in an unexpected direction…

Note: This novel contains some mature content.

You’ve met Anna J. Stewart (or someone like her) before. She was the girl who spun in circles on the playground hoping her Wonder Woman costume would magically appear before playing cops and robbers a la Charlie’s Angels–as Sabrina (she was the smart one). Anna was the girl in the back of the class with a paperback romance hidden in her algebra book (and yes, she failed algebra).

Growing up in the 70′s and 80′s meant there weren’t a lot of YA books, so she ventured early into mainstream fiction and read Stephen King’s CARRIE at the age of 8. Discovering Nora Roberts and romance novels early in high school opened her eyes to the wonders of storytelling and the beauty of a happily ever after.

So here she is, many years later with an English degree from CSU Sacramento, an RWA Golden Heart nomination behind her, countless stories in her head, and a serious addiction to STAR TREK, SUPERNATURAL, and SHERLOCK. She recently wrapped up a nearly 8-year stint working as assistant to NYTimes bestselling author Brenda Novak where she helped run Brenda’s annual online auction for diabetes research. When she’s not writing or reading (which she never has enough time for!), she’s working on dollhouse miniatures and tolerating her overly-affectionate cat named Snickers (or perhaps it’s Snickers who tolerates her).
